Asakusa

Stop number two today was Asakusa, another area directly on the subway line at the station of the same name.

This area of the city is probably the only part with any of the really old temples and buildings left, at least according to what little I had read about the area. It has been turned into a tourist attraction with all stores leading up to the temples selling tourist type souvenirs and the like. It is very well maintained with tourists in mind and looks beautiful. There are even rickshaws available for tourists to tour the area as well. These were lined up on the main streets leading to the temples area. Unfortunately, the biggest temple looked to be under renovation at the time as it was completely covered by tarp. And, this thing is HUGE.

As the main row of shops leading up to the temples were teaming with people, the side streets surrounding the temples were quite deserted, though. Only a few locals walking through and that was about it.

I picked up a few souvenirs and ate some junk food for energy on the main strip. LOL
