I might be wrong, but I think the way it works is by supply and demand. If the supply of new visa numbers is much less than the demand, the dates might go back.

There has to be reason why greencard holder been deported likely due to some illegal act. Here we are law abiding resident waiting for our legal status in legal ways.

reminds me of a popular hindi maxim:

loosely translated in english it means

Some ides that I have heard work are
1) Calling congressman/senator and asking them to help your case.
2) Writing to Ombudsman.
Since no one in America does much of anything in December I am planning to start trying with congressmans office in mid Jan. I have to do something and try - I cant keep sitting hands folded. Or they will say quota is over before we know it - remember ROW is at 2005.
That's true that Dates becoming current does not necessarily ensure that someone will work on your case. Writing to Ombudsman might help (but not necessarily). There is a simple form, Form DHS-7001, fill it and send to Ombudsman (address to send to is on the form - you can search for the form). They forward it to your Service Center for an answer within 45 days. If your dates remain current for this 45 day period, there is a chance that your Service Center will look at your case. If not, Service Center may just wait until your dates are retrogressed again and send a standard reply that you are not current.
Taking an InfoPass might initiate some action too.

Thats true..everybody are bothered about EAD and FP. I am here for more than 8 years in this country. IV should emphasise this and USICS should allow affected candidates like us to file I-485 and atleast get EAD. we have priority date earlier compared to others.

You have nailed it! And it is most prevalent not at the big schools, but rather unnamed "teaching" schools. Absolutely rotten students join M.S. of these universities in hordes, and don't care/able to study. Works in gas pumps and grocery stores to pay for their bills/tuitions, in violation of F-1 regulations. And then get "H1-b" through these body-shoppers.
At the risk of repeating myself, I will say again: just one regulation preventing software consultancies (read: body-shoppers) will remove almost all woes against H1-B program and have a very positive effect on the GC queue in the next decade.

Initially I too got the same doubt that it could be a prank from my friend. But the name of the person who called me matches with the name of the person who visited my employer's office around 2 months back. After I got a call from ICE officer, I notified the same to my employer and explained about the call.
Really donno what to do.... Even though the ICE officer took prior appointment for visiting me, should I still contact attorney?

I tend to agree too that nothing will happen, too much talking, too much BS, but, I can only hope that the republicans know that they can loose the house control, so, maybe they will prefer to have something more conservative than nothing.

By the way as I mentioned earlier, the contract is not of 12 months....its for ENDLESS time. It says that if I leave the company anytime...I will need to refund all the training costs that the company would of incurred in last 12 months.
