If this kind of restriction is not done what will be best way to resolve H1b issue? If H1b increase is done and similar increase is not done on GC then also problem to all IV members(retrogession will continue). If there is cap then certainly it will be reached every year within April.
If they restrict consulting then Most of the H1b persons will get permanent job. Because of less number of H1 most of them will get gc within 2 or 3 years. GC holders and US citizens will do consulting. System will adjust iteself within a few months
Do you mean only full-time H1B are the only people what want to be there in US? It is not correct. H1B program is introduced to fill the labour shortage, it can be either Consulting on a temporary basis or Full-time. H1B is not just for Full-time positions. Do you know who is fulfulling major labour needs? It is consultants. If there are no consultants, there is no way to fulfill the projects on time. So, my friend, do not divide the H1B community into Consultants and Full-time employees. Both are needed. Also, do you know that 70% of H1B are with Consultants who are fulfilling lot of companies needs on a daily basis. So, we can achieve something if we are united, if not nobody is going to get benefitted and all of us have to suffer.
We are not here to discuss on what is going to happen for future H1Bs applicants and divide legal immigrants into differnt groups, first we need to have some solution on what to do for the people already here and facing retrogression. So, we will stay united to show our problems.

I'm all for this. This is very close to my heart. I probably care more about this than I do, my 485 approval.(can't have one without the other, I know I know. But still.).
I don't know when I'll get my 485 approved, hopefully within the next year. But I'm willing to work on this, whatever it takes - contributions, lawmaker meetings, DC.
I'm in.
This has got to be simple too. When the citizenship law was first drafted, immigrants got their green cards within months of entering the country. Start to End of the greencard process took under a year, if not less.
The intention of the law was to have them learn the language, the ways of the country, and assimilate, which was expected to take about 5 years, before applying for citizenship.
These days the green card process itself take over 5 years for a lot of people. Most Indians and Chinese in the EB2 category, and pretty much the entire EB3 category have lived here longer than 5 years. In those 5 years they have gone to school here, paid income taxes, bought homes, and learned the language (well they had to, in order to qualify for an employment based green card!). What more "assimilation" do they need to do?
I definitely think that the following should be the criteria for eligibility to apply for citizenship,
- An approved green card
- 5 years of continuous U.S. residence starting from the date the 485 application was received.
Let's do this.

A modest suggestion:
Talk to lawmakers about the redundancy of the Labour Certification and the Quota processes.
Explain it this way. An employer needs someone for a job. They advertise the job, and find no qualified Americans for the job. They get the Secretary of Labour to certify that there are no Americans for the job (BTW, that's what a "Labour Certificate" is...it the US Department of Labour certifying there are no Americans qualified to do your job!).
Then that company, who has a need for an employee, needs to wait up to 10 years to hire someone permanently for that job (that's the Visa Number quota system). This is horrible for business productivity.
Either one of these systems is reasonable by itself. They both serve to prevent a swamping of the US labour market by "cheap" immigrant labour. But both combined together serve to seriously hinder business productivity, while doing nothing additional to protect American workers.
I've found that every American that I walk through this hypothetical all look at me incredulously and say "It's that screwed up?"

It looks like to me that Porters strike again. they have eaten all the Visa's. very few approvals so far. I am worried about next bulletin now. dates can go back now. every EB3 is porting to EB2.
we see the results. they will block EB2 too.
I'm seeing around 10 approvals from yesterday. Most of the approvals seems like coming after hours. Most of the people are saying they got emails after 11:30 PM last night.
All the cases I have seen are from TSC, none from NSC
Mine is NSC

I agree, titles like "H4 to H1", "Changing Employers", "Urgent question" etc. etc. will obviously be visited more.
May be a gentle reminder about contributions in other topics would help.
How sad it is that we don't get support from our own.
Yes, and the majority of the 8000 members can keep discussing other things. we only need 882 members like us. Lutherpraveen, I have hope that there are 872 people out there that are ready to contribute.

Guys,
Nothing has been passed. Please do not get your hopes up. Please be very careful before posting such messages. The IV team is working behind the scenes.

It was a wonderful experience for me and my wife to meet with the congressmen. Most of them were straightforward and would say whether they agree or disagree with you. The need to differentiate our cause and clearly communicate our agenda became very obvious in the meetings. We need to continuously reinforce the points.
IV did an excellent job organizing the meetings and made it so easy for people like us to participate and contribute to the cause.
From my own experience i can say that taking concrete steps reduces the anxiety of uncertainty, whatever maybe the eventual outcome. That in itself is a reason enough to act.
As i said earlier we need to continuously reinforce our points to the congressmen. Those who missed this opportunity to reduce their anxiety would definitely have more opportunities coming their way in the future.

Hi,
The online case status says: The I485 APPLICATION TO REGISTER PERMANENT RESIDENCE OR TO ADJUST STATUS was transferred and is now being processed at a USCIS office. You will be notified by mail when a decision is made, or if the office needs something from you. If you move while this case is pending, please use our Change of Address online tool to update your case with your new address or call our customer service center at 1-800-375-5283.
Me and my wife were called for interview at Newark, NJ office after we got the Notice for case transfer in Oct. 2009.
I think the notices we received at home did mention the Newark, NJ office, don't remember for sure.
I have an INFOPASS appointment this friday, 27th May to find out why is it taking time for my case to be approved.
Hopefully, there will be no problem with my case.
Thank you for your reply.

We now have 10,716 members.
Let us set a target of 15,000 by the end of May. I think it is doable since we now have more members to take part in it. Could some members help run this campaign and thread?
Also post your innovative ideas you have used to get members.

One suggestion I have, which is followed by lot of websites with PHP Bulletin boards with high traffic is to use a separate server for boards pointing to something like forums.immigrationvoice.org and keep the main site www.immigrationvoice.org on a separate not so powerful server.
Atleast it ensures that the main site doesn't go down, when forum usage is very high.
