This is a great widget, and itself justifies the upgrade to Tiger! BTW, I believe you can update any widget by selecting it, and then hitting command-R (just FYI for the summary in the first post).
Good point, glad you're enjoying the widget.

Why does every headline have to be a question? look at the past three headlines. It's so annoying. Rephrase the headline.

Google literally Velcro's their server farms? Dang, I should try that.
I'm serious. See here (http://www.nytimes.com/2006/06/14/technology/14search.html?pagewanted=all). And here (http://news.cnet.com/8301-1001_3-10209580-92.html).
The slow shift to el cheapo green servers and cloud computing makes Xserve an even tougher sell, most of all to Apple internally.
More so than other tech companies, Apple is famous for making stuff that they want to use themselves. (I remember Steve Jobs once mentioned how Apple employees' hatred for their own cell phones helped drive the creation of the iPhone.) So I'm willing to bet that Apple looked at their server farms and thought, "Dang, we'd be stupid to put Xserves in here. Um, why are we building these things again?"

Stonebriar Frisco update, about 60 in line. Apple rep going down line asking if we have any questions and will try to give us answers.
Asked about what and when accessories are available
Ask about how many per person
Asked about qnty of each available
Asked about flow when doors open at 5:00
And if we do not want personal setup is there an express pay lane
Thanks
DP
Apple rep just came back thought line with water and answers.
Only apple cases - all colors are here. No 3rd party cases yet
HDMI dongle available
iPads have arrived and are still in master cases will start to break down after 3:00
Can just buy and leave do not have to open box unless you want personal setup, separate area for that
They will be handing out tickets at 4:30 on version that we want (color size AT&T or vz or wifi) pick one if the 18 available
Only two per person
Might have an extra ticket

Thanks

Well, for what it's worth, my white iPhone 4 fits the Mophie battery pack exactly the same as my black one does. Can't see any difference either. Well, except one is white.

Am I the only one that feels like we've heard this song and dance before??
Isn't it the same stuff we heard from the record companies and music stores when people started downloading music? You can't stop a technological shift just because you want to keep the same profits. Let Wally-World and Target threaten all they want. It's not going to stop anything.

thats what i was thinking about the mac pro, load one up with 4 gfx cards, or a hackintosh running osx, windows on bootcamp using the extra gfx cores and the main F@H on the OSx side with the cpu,
remember though, you can't use the gpu's in OS X, only in windows right now. so the only way to use both gpu and cpu at the same time is in windows, unless you are good in linux, i've heard people getting it to work

How do we distinguish corporate stores from privately owned ones?
Go to verizon's website, they will list corporate stores. They also list authorized retailers, ie "Joe's Phones".

Well that would explain a lot. :D
But seriously though, it's not that much that is missing from .mac to make it worth the $99 without regrets.
Like:
- fully editable web calendar
- fully editable address book
- spam management
- more storage (2GB would be sufficient)
- make the Finder fast so iDisk is actually usable
- web editable blog synched back to iWeb
- possibility to show subscribed iCals in web interface without having to visit their site
- integrate stickies into .mac and synch them
With those things, that would be fairly easy to do I don't think a lot of people would complain anymore.
And it's not really something completely new, just evolution of the existing.
Agreed!
I tried the new .macmail on my G3/500 iMac this morning, and surprise, surprise, it was horribly slow. At this this morning on my XP box in FF2.0, the UI cooks along nicely. The server updates are slower than I'd like.
Get the calendar fully integrated online and I'd probably use my .mac email more than my gmail account.
OFFTOPIC: Firefox 2.0 has a new feature of spell checking what you are typing in any web window! This makes up for .mac's lack of on the fly spell checking which is great for me at work in the XP world.
Thanks Apple, you are getting much closer to justifying the .mac cost!

So what I want to know from anyonewho knows is can we boot from one of the other 3 HDD's,and then, with the Quadro FX 4500, play some wicked PC games. Or are we there yet, should I just keep saving until all of the cool stuff is ready (CS3, PC games, nasty graphics capabilities).

My white iPhone 4 is definitely thicker than my wife's black iPhone 4.
See how I said "my white iPhone 4" as opposed to "the white iPhone 4"?
With that I showed a lot more professionalism than all these "experts" with their fancy measuring tools making conclusions about ALL phones based on the ONE they happen to have. The tool they all lack is the ability to draw logical conclusions.

I hate to say it but I was not moved by these commercials. Nice to see them but sorry...both guys are geekish.
1) Mac says that he can be used in private and PC is for work only.
...welll that looses the work market ...the market that I use a mac in.
2) Sorry the "Mac" character is not as cool as the US version or some of the actors being used for other computer commercials in Japan. Star power sells in Japan.
If Apple really wants this to sell, they will have to make some specialized videos that are Japan only. For example iMovie...they have to use an example of the time it takes to edit say....kid's sports festival video.
Now I am waiting to see these commercials on prime time TV. If they have a good response and apple sales go up...Great. But sorry. My office is all PC and people have no clue what a Mac is. They just think I can do all these awesome things because I bought the software.
We get faxes daily selling PCs. We have sales people coming by every so often selling computers directly. What is apple doing in Japan? nice commercials that will maybe sell a few more. But in the schools, they are doing crap. If the school uses PCs, the parents buy the same one.
In Sendai, the school system bought macs...so did the parents.
They are on TV already in the Kansai area, saw 2 of them last night.
Agreed on almost all you said. Just doing a commercial on Undokai is not going to sell Mac's to business, Apple Japan needs to think out of the box, that's probably too difficult for them.

I'm guessing it's just a prototype of some sort. We know that Apple tests out many different variations of hardware.
I'm with others in thinking that it would be inconvenient to have a capacitive home button for when it is accidentally pressed. My guess is that Apple knows this and has somehow figured out a solution, if this is indeed the direction they are going.

Dont you think that chip would be a little to hot... :D . Well, I fully agree with OS X being the best. But the OS and the quality apps are all that is going for apple. Apple lacks speed, but I cant blame apple for that (stupid moto ), but I can blame them for not dumping moto a long time ago. If apple computer were just as fast as PCs there is no way I would think about getting near a 'peecee', but they arent as fast :(...

Does push-mail actually work this time? In SLS it is supported, but not with an iPhone. iPhone push thus far only works with Exchange, Google or MobileMe.
Thanks!

Working at Microsoft is not a detriment to his career. It's a boon. I think you'd be hard pressed to find people who would refuse to work at the most successful software company in the world, except the most zealot-minded Apple fanboys, such as we have here. I understand why people downvote the story, but for goodness' sake, I'm fairly sure Apple's HR people know better than us. Give him a freaking break. He's going go to do a job 8000 times better than any random schmuck off the streets (or on these forums for that matter), and that's why he got it.
Working at large, very successful companies isn't always the best. It depends where your priorities are. If you want a good life / work balance then Apple, Google etc ( as a software developer for example ) certainly wouldn't be a great move. However, you'd probably learn a lot by working there too. It would of course look great on your resume.

Do these companies really want people to pay for the same content twice? Surely they can't realistically expect to a get premium for viewing in the same location but just through a different medium?
Of course they do!!!!!
Its the same with music companies who feel that if you want to listen to your purchased music at home and then anywhere else you should pay twice.

It's too bad really, but he doesn't look long for this world. No one that skinny is healthy. My guess is that the last few months have been spent in trying to put some weight on the guy. Chemo therapy cannot be given to someone who is already too weak......
I hope I'm wrong.
I'm not far off being that skinny. I eat well, and exercise 4-5 times a week.
While Jobs undoubtedly has some health issues (none of us know what they are right now - other than the fairly major fact that he has a transplanted liver) but to say no one healthy is that thin is just not true.
Some people have quite spectacularly high metabolisms
Mr Jobs has never exactly been a chubber, has he? :P

Normal people need to type documents, play little flash/java web games that their friends mail them, view youtube videos, facebook, and watch movies.
I'd say current tablets can really only do half of that well. A tablet with a slide out keyboard and Flash&Java could do the other half :p
