I am amazed to recently discover Mac owners pay more on average to keep the most current OS running on their box, even though OS X is cheaper (by about $70) than comparative Windows releases.

Spending $400 on Vista Ultimate Edition makes up the difference. :) Although the operative phrase here is "most current OS running on their box"--the most current Windows is six years old, so if people want to complain that it costs more money to keep up with modern OS updates than it does to have no major OS updates at all for over half a decade, that's not exactly something I consider a negative.

Got my copy of Leopard and t-shirt! Start queuing about half four, maybe a little after.

I didn't expect that amount of people I mean, I figured there'd be a lot of people, but :D. Also, congrats to the Apple store security people for blocking off the fools who started their own alternate queue from the opposite side of the store entrance. The organisation was crappy though. I don't know how many t-shirts there really were, but if anyone from Apple is reading this, next time someone should probably walk down the queue while it's not frantic and hand out numbered tickets for people to show as they go in.

I can't wait to get home and install it though! The front is so shiny :O

It has the underpinnings of a great program. The UI is a little unfriendly and could be more intuitive. Hopefully it progresses faster than .Mac has in improving.

clueless overbearing confidence based on ignorance.

    Never review your pictures.

After college I had to sell my wet darkroom and rely on outside labs. I suffered from not reviewing my photos to a serious degree, they just sat in those white envelopes with the sticky glue on top. Digital has saved me as a photographer.

So we're on our way to a government shutdown because the Tea Party Republicans want to kill Planned Parenthood and Big Bird. How ****ing sad.

Uhm, yeah, there's also the Democrats who could've passed a new budget quite a long time ago, but were afraid of dealing with their own party.

What's pathetic is the complete lack of common sense between the two parties. They used to know how to work together in the past. Now they can't compromise because of ideological BS. It's a Lose-Lose situation, for the people at least.

It's time to throw the everyone out.

Although it looks pretty nice, it is a half-assed approach to improvement.

    - No spam management
    - No full feature set (missing bounce, etc.)
    - No full data set for the Address Book (still can't note bdays, etc.)
    - No iCal integration with a fully editable calendar

Seriously would these things be too hard to do? Google does them so why doesn't Apple?

Sometimes I get the feeling that there are only interns working on .mac

The fact that a big sticking point in all of this was the social conservative nonsense about abortions and planned parenthood is just ridiculous. If this is all that many of our politicians can think about in times like these, we're ********** doomed.

My sentiments exactly. Of course you can look around you and thank all the idiots who voted the idiots into office.

Headset jack was removed, so had to buy a USB headset for example.

I think you're misinformed. The current models simply combined the 1/8" in and out jacks into one port (TRRS), just like the port on the iPhone. For example, you can plug your iPhone headphones into your Mac for use as a headset.

It also supports optical via mini-TOSlink: http://www.amazon.com/6ft-Toslink-Mini-Cable/dp/B000FMXKC8/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1302041837&sr=8-2

Off-topic comment, but still related to external storage.

I received my Mac mini around noon, and I found something the previous (at least the GMA950 Core 2 Duo) model didn't support: USB flash storage works when connected to a side USB port of the aluminium Apple keyboard. My older Mac mini complains about lacking power via that USB port but the new one works just fine!

Oh wow, the corded ones have a usb jack? I only have the wireless one. Neat!

People are a nation's greatest asset. Planned Parenthood should not be funded by the government, all incoming money goes into one pot and then distributed thus some money goes towards abortions.

What does you first sentence have to do with the second?

    Could you please elaborate?

We're finally gonna get laptop docking stations again after all these years.

There is no reason why the dock connector couldn't be used for that.

    +1

It's probably a QC issue. Some are thicker while others are not.

If your an Asian worker in china and work over 60 hours per week, you're probably going to get tired of putting 1,000 same parts over and over again per hour, thus causing some minor, and very minor tweaks to the device, and Apple's QC is excellent by the way.

Girls don't think it's a big deal; as long as someone isn't pushy or annoying, they don't mind if someone asks, and they find it flattering, even when they say they're not interested.

I agree. Don't be creepy, too. No heavy breathing through your teeth so it makes that creepy noise, and no Fava beans with Chianti for lunch.

    :)

aaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhh I want to buy this!!!! But alas I cannot afford it at present, well it depends on if I get a 3DS next weekend or not. But having used the demo of Outlook I love it, much better then Mail IMO.

If anyone knows of a cheaper price then around 160 in the UK let me know cause that's the best I've found.

Are you in education? Or do you have children in education?

If so, then you can buy it for just under 39 from RM (www.RM.com/thebasement).

Full disclosure: I work for RM.

The first time I read the title, I thought that Apple has made Soundbooth app. After re-reading it, I realized it was Adobe who made it

Photobooth, Soundbooth, dont they look familiar? ;)

How did they make a x86-only app for OS X? I though the only way app can be compiled for Intel OS X is use of UB format! Guess I was wrong...

Anyway, I dont need this SoundPooth, I'm happy with my Soundtrack Pro :D

If you survived reading that entire installment, I commend you.
If you have reached the end without reading the middle, that is quite fine, just give your advice on how to talk to women.

the most common trait that women look for (so i have been told) from a first impression is self confidence. Walk proud (not cocky), smile (genuinely) and own your surroundings (look comfortable). Dress approriately, being well kept and neat.

You say you have a friend that doesnt know about Macs, so bring him to the store, and make sure that she notices you informing him about the benefits of a mac, not in a cocky way like some do, but rather in a way that will make him want to switch. If she notices this, you now have a common interest. Thats assuming that she enjoys working be at the Apple store, but it is a pretty safe bet considering most mac employees do.

When she walks by you, forget something about the product you are describing to your friend, and ask her to take it from there. Making her feel important for something other than her physical attributes is key.

Praise her for her help and that fact that she is well informed. Make sure she knows that her intervention changed a decision or outlook. Everyone wants to be influential in some way.

Hopefully by then, you can steer the conversation towards finding another reason that you two should run into each other again. That DOES NOT mean to ask her out or for her number, but rather find out when they have a good class going on, when coincidentally she is working. Humble yourself, and take a iMovie class or two if it results in you bumping into her again.

If you do get a chance to talk to her again, BE CREATIVE! Send her an instant message on iChat from across the store... save her from a masked man robbing the store at gun...., well you get the picture.

Lastly, Dont get to into detail in this post... there is a possibly she or one of her co-workers cruises the macrumors forums, and she could find this really creepy or really cool :D

I sincerely apologize if I have repeated anything that someone else has said
but I think its really cool that you reached out to a community that usually deals with computer questions. :D
